A black Fender Stratocaster, once owned by David Gilmour of Pink Floyd, fetched a record-breaking $14.55 million at a recent auction. The guitar, famously used on several Pink Floyd albums, including "The Dark Side of the Moon," surpassed the previous record for the most expensive guitar sold at auction. The sale, conducted by Christie's, highlights the enduring value of music memorabilia.

The guitar's sale price far exceeded the previous record of $6.01 million, set in 2020. The instrument was part of the collection of Jim Irsay, a music enthusiast. Gilmour acquired the guitar in 1970 and used it extensively until 1983. It was then brought back into use in 2014 for the band's last album, "The Endless River."

Christie's also facilitated the sale of other high-value guitars from the same collection. A guitar used by Kurt Cobain in the "Smells Like Teen Spirit" music video sold for $6.9 million. Additionally, a custom guitar belonging to Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead, known as "The Tiger," reached $11.56 million. These sales demonstrate the strong market for iconic instruments.
