On social media, Meta's chief executive appeared to jab at rival AI lab Anthropic, emphasizing safety over rapid improvement. Mark Zuckerberg posted that leading AI labs should prioritize safety rather than improving their own technology. He did not name Dario Amodei or Anthropic directly, but stated that calls to pause AI development industrywide were the wrong approach.

This came after Anthropic's CEO called for a global AI slowdown over concerns about rapidly accelerating capabilities. Other tech leaders, including Elon Musk and Sam Altman, have also weighed in on the debate regarding AI's potential dangers. Zuckerberg took a middle ground, acknowledging risks but arguing companies are already incentivized to keep users safe.

He cited Meta's delay of the Muse AI agent release for several months to ensure security as an example of responsible progress. He criticized rivals for racing toward recursive self-improvement, suggesting they should instead focus on serving people. Meta has been aiming to catch up in the AI race after falling behind competitors last year.

The company plans to release its most powerful AI model to date, internally called Watermelon, in the coming weeks. The tech industry remains divided on the appropriate pace of AI development as safety concerns continue to mount.
