Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said no new US laws or regulations are needed to control AI development, rejecting a push by leading labs to co-ordinate a slowdown in research for safety. "The market forces are already there," Huang said, arguing AI labs should not fall into a "false choice" between innovation speed and safe products.

The intervention by the chief executive of the $5tn semiconductor group follows days of debate about AI's potential existential threat. Anthropic's Dario Amodei, Open AI's Sam Altman and Elon Musk have publicly called for a co-ordinated slowdown. Huang — whose company is a big investor in Open AI, Anthropic and Musk's Space X — has emerged as an outlier, joined by Google and Microsoft.

Speaking to Salesforce's Marc Benioff in San Francisco on Tuesday, Huang said companies should individually focus on not releasing dangerous products. "Run as fast as you can, but if you feel at any given point in time the company is out of control or products are not going to be safe, take a pause and get it right."

Huang has aligned himself with Donald Trump against an AI slowdown. Nvidia invested $30bn in Open AI this year and provided an up to $105bn financing guarantee for its data centre campus project in Ohio.
