Uber plans to cut 3,300 jobs, about 10% of its corporate workforce, in its largest layoffs since the pandemic. The move aims to reduce complexity and generate savings to fund over $10bn in robotaxi investments. CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said the cuts will streamline operations and support deployment in at least 15 cities this year.

Analysts at Citi estimate the layoffs will yield roughly $825mn in annual savings. Uber faces growing competition from Waymo and Elon Musk’s Tesla in the robotaxi race. While Uber Eats has gained share in Europe, it trails DoorDash in the US, where DoorDash holds 64% market share versus Uber’s 31%.

The company is also reducing remote work to ~1% of staff and cutting managers by 20%. Khosrowshahi cited organizational complexity from past growth as a key driver. Uber is integrating Delivery Hero after its €13bn acquisition and reinforcing hybrid work policies requiring three office days weekly.
