Nvidia and ABB Robotics have launched a partnership to develop AI-enabled autonomous industrial robots, integrating ABB's training software with Nvidia's Omniverse simulation platform. The companies announced that Foxconn, Apple's major supplier, is already trialing these machines, which can train themselves in virtual environments before deployment. The robots will be commercially available in the second half of 2025.

This collaboration aims to bridge the performance gap between virtual training and real-world operation, significantly reducing deployment costs and time. Marc Segura, president of ABB Robotics, emphasized that this breakthrough will make industrial robots accessible to small and medium-sized manufacturers for the first time. The installed cost of robotic arms currently ranges from $40,000 for collaborative models to $500,000 for industrial-scale systems, creating a substantial barrier for smaller companies.

The partnership represents a strategic move in Nvidia's broader robotics ambitions, as CEO Jensen Huang has identified robotics as a multitrillion-dollar opportunity. While analysts note remaining obstacles including energy constraints and regulatory concerns, the technology promises to address labor shortages and enhance industrial competitiveness, particularly for Western manufacturers seeking to compete with China's manufacturing dominance.
