IWC's Space Watch Takes Flight

Swiss watchmaker IWC has entered the space domain with the Pilot's Venturer Vertical Drive, developed exclusively for astronaut use in partnership with Vast. Unlike previous space watches that adapted existing models, IWC designed this timepiece from the ground up, specifically tested in Vast's facilities and qualified for flight on the company's Haven-1 commercial space station.

The £22,600 watch features space-specific engineering: a rotating bezel instead of a crown for use with gloves, 24-hour format for orbital timekeeping, and Ceratanium construction for temperature resistance. This represents IWC's broader strategy extending its aviation heritage into space, following nine previous IWC watches on civilian missions since 2021.

The watch balances technical precision with human-centric design, helping astronauts maintain Earth routines while in orbit. As IWC CEO Chris Grainger-Herr explains, it's about creating "something that really feels human-centered" despite the extreme environment. The collaboration demonstrates how luxury brands are leveraging space partnerships to enhance technical credibility and brand storytelling.
