Colton Herta admits his Formula 2 switch from IndyCar has been tougher than expected, struggling with pace and results. The Cadillac protege sits 19th in the standings with 26 points, his best finish being fifth in the Barcelona sprint race. He told Autosport, "It's just been the whole thing. Unfortunately, there hasn't been a whole bunch of positives at any point."

Despite strong winter testing, Herta's race weekend performance has not translated. He qualified 14th on average in the first five rounds, worsening to 18th across the next eight sessions. His deficit grew from 0.848s to 1.088s, ballooning to over 3s in Baku. Crashes have also increased, with three in recent rounds.

Cadillac F1 CEO Dan Towriss expected a top-10 finish, which is now out of reach. Herta hasn't received feedback from the team but is in talks about 2027 plans. He hasn't ruled out a second F2 season, though it's not his priority. "There's zero progression," he said.

Despite the struggles, Herta remains focused on his F1 goal by 2028. His F1 sim and TPC testing pace has been strong, but it's not translating to F2. He continues to work hard, aiming to make the most of the remaining races.
