Colten Jacob's QPI v2 specification transforms QR codes from simple hyperlinks into self-contained data containers. This evolution addresses previous limitations by introducing multi-QR chunking, allowing images to be split across several codes for greater capacity. The protocol also integrates cryptographic verification and intelligent compression, creating a robust system for storing and securing data directly within physical barcodes.

Unlike network data, QR transmission is one-way and error-prone, requiring different architectural thinking. QPI v2 is designed for this reality, enabling partial data recovery and progressive rendering as users scan chunks. This approach creates trustworthy physical artifacts, from verifiable concert tickets to disaster-resilient emergency information, all functioning without server connectivity once established.

The specification defines four security tiers, from basic integrity checks to advanced Trust on First Scan integration. A key advantage is backward compatibility; older scanners simply ignore the new security footers. While capacity remains limited to kilobytes, the system is ideal for specific use cases like diplomas, pharmaceutical packaging, and digital-physical art, making permanent, verifiable data accessible to anyone with a printer.
