Fenway Sports Group (FSG) has agreed to sell a minority stake in Liverpool FC to 1892 Holdings, a consortium led by Amit Bhatia and backed by Jeff Bezos and Facebook co‑founder Eduardo Saverin. The deal values the club at a record $7bn, a 14‑fold increase over the £300m purchase price in 2010. Forbes listed Liverpool at $6.2bn in May 2026, ranking it fourth behind Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United.

On‑pitch success, a new Adidas kit deal and the expansion of the Anfield Road Stand have driven the valuation jump. Amit Bhatia, former Queens Park Rangers co‑owner and son‑in‑law of steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal, becomes vice‑chairman and sits on an expanded board. Bezos’s first sports‑team investment comes through K5 Sports, his K5 Global fund, while the Saverins’ EE Capital also holds a seat. FSG will keep majority ownership and operational control.

UEFA data shows private‑equity backing of 36% of Big‑Five clubs in 2025‑26, with minority stakes preferred to preserve club control under Premier League rules limiting leveraged buyouts to ~65% of value. The transaction underscores Liverpool’s strategic focus on sustainable growth, leveraging commercial partnerships and stadium expansion to enhance revenue streams. Investors expect continued returns as the club consolidates its position among Europe’s elite.
