Welsh Fire have secured the services of former England international Chris Woakes for the 2026 The Hundred season. The 36-year-old World Cup winner was previously signed last year but missed the entire campaign after dislocating his shoulder in his final Test match against India. His return adds significant experience to the squad.

Woakes brings a wealth of white-ball pedigree to Welsh Fire, boasting over 300 international wickets and franchise league experience across the globe. Despite limited The Hundred appearances—just three games for Birmingham Phoenix in 2023—he is viewed as a potential catalyst to improve the team's recent fortunes. Coach Michael Hussey praised his professionalism.

The signing completes Welsh Fire's fourth and final direct acquisition, joining Phil Salt, Rachin Ravindra, and Marco Jansen. The franchise will now look to the March auction to finalise its squad for the 2026 competition. For Woakes, it represents a chance to finally take the field in front of the Welsh fans after his frustrating injury layoff.
