Wales head coach Steve Tandy confirmed a pay dispute between players and the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) has been settled just three days before their Nations Championship opener against Fiji. Tandy stressed preparations were not impacted, with no training sessions missed. Talks between the WRU and the Welsh Rugby Players' Association (WRPA), involving senior players, concluded with an agreement on employment terms late Wednesday.

While Tandy was not privy to negotiation details, he praised the players' focus and resilience. The resolution means the squad can now concentrate fully on Saturday's match. This marks the third campaign for Tandy where he has had to address off-field issues, including previous concerns over regional team cuts and player job security.

Former Wales international Jamie Roberts criticized the timing of the dispute, stating it should never occur during Test week. Basic match fees are reportedly maintained around £9,000 per game. The WRU faces scrutiny over its handling of player relations and organizational stability, with other deadlines missed regarding professional side reductions.
