Former Wales captain Jonathan Davies has publicly urged the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) board to step down, citing a failure to deliver over their three-year tenure. His call echoes similar demands from Welsh business leaders and local politicians, who have also called for the resignation of chief executive Abi Tierney. The WRU board currently has 11 members, following the departure of chair Richard Collier-Keywood in March.

Davies expressed that the current board should "have a look at themselves and decide whether it is time for them to step aside." He advocates for an interim board to stabilize the situation and select a new board "fit for purpose." This comes amid controversy surrounding the WRU's plan to reduce the number of professional teams from four to three by 2028, a decision that has created uncertainty for the Scarlets and Ospreys.

Both Scarlets and Ospreys have voiced their opposition to the reduction, with Ospreys stating that four professional sides are the "way forward." Davies emphasized that the economy and the game in Wales are suffering, and it's time for all stakeholders – ex-players, regions, clubs, and fans – to demand change to prevent a worse future state for Welsh rugby.
