Uhlaender Banned from Olympics After CAS Appeal Rejected

Skeleton racer Katie Uhlaender will not compete in her sixth Winter Olympics after the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled it lacked authority to overturn a qualifying race result. Uhlaender sought ranking points from a January event where Canada withdrew four athletes, arguing the move reduced her chances.

The International Bobsled and Skeleton Federation previously cleared Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton of wrongdoing, stating the withdrawals were made for athlete safety and long-term development. CAS explained its Winter Olympic panel could only review decisions made within 10 days of the Games' February 6 opening, making Uhlaender’s case ineligible.

Even if ranking points had been adjusted, U.S. officials would still decide final roster spots. Uhlaender, a double world champion from 2012, claimed the withdrawals violated competition integrity codes. Her appeal highlighted tensions around athlete selection fairness and national federation discretion during Olympic qualification periods.
