Canada skeleton chiefs cleared in Olympic row

The International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation has cleared Canada's skeleton chiefs of manipulating Olympic qualifying. An investigation was launched after Canada withdrew four athletes from a North American Cup event in Lake Placid. The IBSF said rules allow federations to withdraw competitors at any time, dismissing the complaint.

USA slider Katie Uhlaender claimed the withdrawal cost her a spot at the Milano-Cortina Games. She said it reduced the field to fewer than 21, cutting ranking points available for qualification. Rival federations suspected the move aimed to protect Canada's own quota for the Olympics, though no rule breach was found.

While cleared, the IBSF reminded the Canadian coach and federation to act within the spirit of the code, not just the letter. The organization will review its rules this spring. Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton defended the decision, citing athlete health and long-term development.
