The World Rally Championship will return to the UK for the first time in eight years when the north-east of Scotland hosts a round in 2027. The inaugural WRC Rally Scotland will be headquartered in Aberdeen and contested in the forests of Aberdeenshire for the next three years, following a deal with Motorsport UK. The new event marks the first time a full round of the WRC will be staged solely in Scotland.

Funding support from the Scottish Government, Aberdeen City Council, and Aberdeenshire Council made the three-year deal possible. The event is expected to be allocated an autumn slot in next year's calendar, which has yet to be finalized. The last time the UK hosted a WRC event was in 2019, and Scotland's previous appearance was in 1995 when the RAC Rally ventured into the Borders.

David Richards, chairman of Motorsport UK, called the championship's return to British stages "very meaningful," noting it will showcase the passion of the rally community and demonstrate how motorsport can contribute to innovation and sustainability. The event is projected to generate as much as £80 million for the local economy. Scotland's Minister for Business, Richard Lochhead, described it as "a huge moment for Scottish motorsport" that will attract thousands of visitors and provide significant economic benefits.
