Regan Grace's Injury-Plagued Comeback: Welsh Wing's Fight to Return

Regan Grace refuses to quit rugby despite suffering a third Achilles rupture in four years. The 29-year-old Welsh wing tore his right Achilles during Sale training in January, shortly before a Premiership Cup match. Grace had already endured two previous Achilles injuries and a hamstring problem during Wales' 2024 Australia tour, leading him to contemplate retirement.

Grace built his reputation at St Helens, scoring 88 tries in 142 games and winning four Super League titles plus the 2021 Challenge Cup. His performances earned a move to Racing 92, but injuries limited his impact in France. The wing's determination stems from his try-scoring addiction and desire to represent Wales at union level.

After nearly five months of rehabilitation, Grace trains with Sale's staff three times weekly while maintaining his own gym program. He targets a pre-season link-up with Sharks, aiming to prove fitness before pursuing his next contract. Grace acknowledges his injury record poses challenges but remains confident in his recovery process.

His international debut with Wales in 2024, scoring against Queensland Reds, reminded Grace why he fights on. The emotional call-up to represent his country at union after establishing himself in league provided renewed motivation. Despite repeated setbacks, Grace's resilience and past achievements keep him relevant in both codes.
