Emma Raducanu's 10-week comeback ended in a 6-4 7-6 (7-4) first-round defeat to Diane Parry at the Strasbourg 500. The British number one had been sidelined since a third-round loss to Amanda Anisimova at Indian Wells in March following a post-viral illness. Granted a wildcard, Raducanu looked promising early, breaking for a 4-2 lead with fierce backhand winners and nimbly moving around the court.

But double faults crept in and Parry reeled her back before taking control. In the second set, Raducanu saved 16 break points across the match and briefly rediscovered her rhythm, yet the French world number 94 broke back twice to go 5-4 up. Raducanu held serve twice to stop Parry from closing it out, but Parry eventually won the tie-break 7-4 after 2 hours 26 minutes.

The loss leaves Raducanu with just one clay-court match before the French Open starts Sunday. Her ranking has slipped from 23rd to 37th, meaning she won't be seeded at Roland Garros. Despite the setback, she reunited with coach Andrew Richardson, who guided her to the US Open title as a teenager, and showed enough grit to keep Parry under pressure throughout.
