Emma Raducanu, the British No. 1, has withdrawn from the Italian Open in Rome due to a post-viral illness. She had been practicing in the city but decided with her team to pull out after media obligations. Raducanu, who has been absent from the tour since Indian Wells in March, missed Miami, Linz, and Madrid. Her last match was a 6-1 6-1 loss to Amanda Anisimova at Indian Wells on March 8. Andrew Richardson, her US Open-winning coach, has been a key figure in her training.

Raducanu could still compete in warm-up events ahead of the French Open, which starts May 24. The Internationaux de Strasbourg (May 17-23) and Rabat Grand Prix (May 18-23) are her options. She trained with Richardson in Spain and worked with childhood coach Jane O'Donoghue in Rome. Her hitting partner, Alexis Canter, has been her main partner since splitting from Francisco Roig.

Meanwhile, British No. 3 Katie Boulter reached the quarterfinals in Rouen and won at Madrid. Cameron Norrie, a two-time clay-court champion, has a first-round bye. World No. 1 Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic could meet in the final, with Djokovic aiming to complete the Career Golden Masters. The Italian Open runs May 5-17, with live coverage on Sky Sports.
