Ryan Garcia has announced a September showdown against Britain's Conor Benn in Las Vegas, putting his WBC welterweight title on the line. The 27-year-old American champion made the revelation during an appearance on Jimmy Fallon's Tonight Show, confirming the highly anticipated matchup after his February victory over Mario Barrios.

Garcia captured his first major belt with a unanimous decision victory over Barrios, marking success after two previous failed title attempts. Benn, 29, seeks to follow in the footsteps of his father Nigel, a two-weight world champion. The British contender has yet to compete for a world title himself, with his career trajectory seeing him move up from welterweight to middleweight.

The bout carries personal animosity according to Garcia, who recounted a confrontation with Benn at an awards show two years ago where the Briton "grabbed" him. "He's been talking a lot, he's talking crazy," Garcia stated, promising to "put a whooping on this man." Benn's recent fighting history shows he hasn't competed at welterweight since February 2024, having moved up to face Chris Eubank Jr before beating Regis Prograis in April at a catchweight 3lb above the welterweight limit.
