Oscar Onley out of Tour de France after shoulder crash

Oscar Onley will miss the 2026 Tour de France after a crash on stage six of the Tour Auvergne‑Rhone‑Alpes left him with a significant shoulder injury. The Scottish rider dislocated his shoulder in the fall, and subsequent scans confirmed the severity. Netcompany‑Ineos confirmed his withdrawal ahead of the Barcelona start. The injury also sidelines him from WorldTour races, cutting his calendar.

Last season Onley finished fourth in the Tour, matching the best Scottish result set by Philippa York in 1984. That performance raised expectations for a podium push this year. With his season now redirected toward rehab, the team emphasised that he has begun a structured programme and is making “encouraging progress”, according to the official team statement. He will miss the Giro later this year.

The timing hurts Ineos Grenadiers’ squad depth, as Onley had been slated for a key support role alongside team leaders. His absence forces a reshuffle of domestique assignments and may limit the team’s chances of a stage win. Oscar Onley will focus on recovery, but the Tour’s line‑up loses one of its most promising young climbers.
