Two-time Tour de France winner Jonas Vingegaard will miss the rest of the season after fracturing his collarbone on stage 15 of the 2024 Tour de France.

The crash occurred on a tight right-hand bend off a roundabout, when his front wheel slid out and he landed on his shoulder, requiring surgery.

He will also be absent from the UCI Road World Championships in Montreal, Canada, where Tadej Pogacar aims for a third straight world title.

Visma-Lease a Bike’s sporting director Marc Reef said the decision reflects the rider’s race load in 2026 and the need to focus on the 2027 goals. Earlier this season he won the Giro d'Italia, becoming only the eighth rider to capture all three Grand Tours, and his crash sparked criticism of the early-morning doping controls that woke him at 02:00 while Pogacar was tested at 05:00.

After a busy period and the injury, the team will plan his comeback and training build-up together.
