Ireland centre Stuart McCloskey has signed a one‑year extension with Ulster, tying him to the province until the end of the 2027‑28 season. The 33‑year‑old delivered a breakout 2025‑26 campaign, anchoring Ireland’s midfield as the side secured the Six Nations Triple Crown. His performances earned a shortlist spot for Six Nations Player of the Championship and cemented his reputation as a world‑class centre.

He featured in 13 matches for Ulster last term, helping the province reach the European Challenge Cup final. A hamstring pull in the semi‑final win over Exeter Chiefs ended his season, forcing him to miss the defeat to Montpellier. The run also showed his defensive grit. With 217 caps, McCloskey is one appearance shy of matching Rory Best’s third‑most tally for the club.

Back fit, McCloskey now eyes Ireland’s inaugural Nations Championship tests against Australia, Japan and New Zealand in July. He called Ulster his “home” and said the whirlwind season left him motivated for the next few years. General manager Rory Best called the extension a “vital piece of business”, noting the centre’s line‑breaking ability and mentorship for emerging talent. His presence will shape Ulster’s midfield.
