Richie Murphy has signed a contract extension with Ulster, keeping him as head coach until the summer of 2028. The former Ireland U20 boss took over on an interim basis in February 2024 and earned a full-time role that May, but his first full season proved challenging.

Ulster finished 14th in the United Rugby Championship last term, missing the European Champions Cup for the first time. However, form has improved this season. The province sits third in the URC with six wins from eight games and topped Pool Three in the European Challenge Cup.

Murphy has promoted several young players, including Zac Ward and Jack Murphy, during this transition. He praised the group's growth and belief, aiming to build a competitive squad. The coaching staff, including Mark Sexton and Wille Faloon, also extended their deals, ensuring continuity as Ulster seeks to challenge for trophies.
