Lancashire are staring at the lowest finish in their 136-year Championship history, sitting seventh in Division Two with one match remaining.

The Red Rose have lost eight of their past 10 Championship matches, with batting collapses becoming a recurring problem. Since the two-tier system began in 2000, Lancashire had only spent three years in Division Two, bouncing back as champions each time. However, following a fourth relegation two years ago, struggles have continued.

Head coach Dale Benkenstein departed mid-2025 after a poor start, with captain Keaton Jennings also resigning. Steven Croft took over temporarily and secured the permanent role after showing improvement. James Anderson took permanent captaincy for 2026, but injuries to Luke Wells and Ajeet Singh Dale in mid-April proved costly.

With the bat, Lancashire have managed just one batting bonus point in nine matches, with teenager Rocky Flintoff's 65 being the highest individual score. The bowling attack remains strong, with Anderson and George Briggs leading the way in bowling points.
