British Para-alpine skier Hester Poole is determined to bounce back after crashing out of her Winter Paralympic debut in the giant slalom. The 18-year-old from Bath, who has only 5-10% vision due to Leber congenital amaurosis, lost her balance early in Thursday's run and tumbled down the course while her guide Ali Hall could only watch.

Rather than dwell on the disappointment, Poole is embracing what she calls a 'redemption arc' ahead of Saturday's slalom. 'Some people have glory stories, some people have redemption arcs,' she said. 'That's the angle I'm going for now.' Poole only learned she would compete in the Milan-Cortina Games three weeks before they began, having juggled her A-Level studies with international competition.

Austria's Veronika Aigner claimed gold in the giant slalom for her third Paralympic title of these Games. Meanwhile, teammate Menna Fitzpatrick, recovering from two major injuries in 18 months, finished sixth in her third event. 'I've definitely grown in confidence into the last few races,' Fitzpatrick said. 'It's feeling a bit more like myself.'
