Arsenal Reignite Interest in Aston Villa's Ezri Konsa

Arsenal are reigniting their interest in Aston Villa central defender Ezri Konsa. The 28-year-old is still on holiday after the World Cup and not with Villa's squad for their Super Cup game. The Gunners' initial summer move for Konsa did not materialise, with Arsenal only willing to pay around £30m for the England international, who is valued at £60m by Villa.

Konsa played 48 games last season for Villa, winning the Europa League. Having signed Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle, Arsenal are now accelerating their interest in Konsa, whose versatility is seen favourably. Arsenal accept they will need to significantly improve their original offer, but whether Villa will sell under their valuation remains to be seen.

Multiple sources told BBC Sport that Arsenal have also held exploratory talks with Tottenham over a potential move for their captain Cristian Romero. Spurs have no intention of selling to Arsenal given the rivalry, but that has not prevented enquiries into what would be a surprising transfer. Romero missed the end of last season with a knee injury but returned for Argentina at the World Cup.
