Draper hires Andy Murray as new coach ahead of grass season

Jack Draper has announced a new coaching partnership for the grass‑court swing, bringing former world No.1 Andy Murray into his team after parting ways with Jamie Delgado. Draper, who missed the French Open with a knee tendon injury, hopes the change will spark a rebound from his recent slump in 2024 season ahead.

Draper's injuries have limited him to only eight tour matches since February, after a bruised humerus left him out of competition for almost six months. He returned briefly for a Davis Cup tie against Norway, then played Dubai before a knee problem forced an early exit in Barcelona, cutting his clay‑court campaign short.

Murray's return as Draper's coach follows the former champion’s own comeback after a year‑long injury layoff, where he guided Delgado to a top‑ten ranking. With Draper having claimed his first ATP title in Stuttgart last year, the partnership could provide the tactical edge needed for the Queen's and Wimbledon events.

Despite the coaching shuffle, Draper will still skip the French Open, focusing on regaining match fitness before the grass‑court season. His ranking drop places him outside the top 75 post‑Italian Open, but a strong showing at Queen's could restore his standing and set the tone for the remainder of 2024.
