Narvaez Wins Giro Stage After Team Crash

Jhonatan Narvaez claimed stage four victory at the Giro d'Italia just three days after a major crash that sidelined three UAE Emirates-XRG team-mates. The 29-year-old Ecuadorian rider recovered from his own serious injuries sustained at the Tour Down Under in January to sprint past Colombia's Orluis Aular in the uphill finish in Cosenza, southern Italy.

Narvaez's win came after his young Swiss team-mate forced the peloton to chase him over the final 14.5km climb with gradients of up to 11%. The UAE rider conserved energy while others worked to reel in Christen, giving Narvaez the advantage for the final sprint where he comfortably beat Aular.

Italy's Giulio Ciccone claimed the overall leader's pink jersey after finishing third, with previous leader Guillermo Thomas Silva dropping more than 12 minutes. The victory was dedicated to Narvaez's injured team-mates including Britain's Adam Yates, who left the race with concussion. Denmark's Jonas Vingegaard remains 11th overall, 10 seconds behind Ciccone.
