Dave Rennie has been appointed as the new head coach of New Zealand's All Blacks, becoming the first person of Pasifika heritage to lead the national team. The 62-year-old replaces Scott Robinson, who was sacked in January following high-profile losses and reported tensions between players and staff. Born in Upper Hutt with Cook Islands heritage through his mother, Rennie brings a unique perspective to the role.

Rennie beat Jamie Joseph to secure the prestigious position, tasked with guiding the All Blacks to their fourth World Cup triumph in Australia next October. At his Auckland news conference, the coach opened with Maori greetings "Kia orana koutou" (hello to all) and expressed being "extremely proud and honored" by the appointment. He emphasized understanding the expectations that come with coaching New Zealand.

Before taking charge of the national team, Rennie will honor his current commitment with Japan's Kobe Steelers. The All Blacks face crucial July tests against France, Italy and Ireland as part of their World Cup preparation. Rennie described the challenge ahead, stating "It's a sprint from here" with the need to get athletes in optimal condition for peak performance.
