Cricket Scotland has expressed regret for the "hurt" experienced by former cricketer Majid Haq, who blew the whistle on racism within the sport. Haq's original complaint in 2015 led to a 2022 review that branded Cricket Scotland's governance institutionally racist. The organization has accepted all 448 recommendations from that review.

Haq, who won 209 caps for Scotland, later launched a civil legal claim against Cricket Scotland for alleged victimisation after being removed from umpiring a national fixture. This claim has now been dropped following statements from both Haq and the governing body. An independent investigation had previously concluded that Haq was victimised, with his umpiring career "substantially undermined" after he spoke out.

In his statement, Haq described the past 11 years as "some of the hardest of my life," citing the personal cost to him and his family. He is withdrawing his court action to allow Cricket Scotland to implement its equality, diversity, and inclusion plans. He hopes this move will help foster an inclusive and safe environment for all participants.

Cricket Scotland reiterated its regret for Haq's experiences, stating that racism is unacceptable and will be met with the strongest response. The organization is reaffirming its commitment to a zero-tolerance policy towards discrimination and is focused on embedding a culture of inclusivity to ensure cricket thrives for everyone in Scotland.
