Great Britain's Beth Potter opened the 2026 World Triathlon Championship Series with victory in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. The women's race featured the standard Olympic distance format - a 1.5km swim, 40.2km bike ride and 10km run. The event marked the season's start after the planned opener in Abu Dhabi was postponed.

British performance director Mike Cavendish had described the race as an excellent opportunity for athletes to assess their fitness after a hard winter of training. The Olympic qualification window officially opens following the Yokohama triathlon on 16 May. Eight more races are scheduled this season, culminating in the finals in Ponteredra, Spain in September, with London hosting a sprint event on 25 July.

In the men's T100 event in Singapore, New Zealand's Hayden Wilde took victory with Sam Dickinson finishing second, over six minutes behind. The T100 format differs from Olympic distance, featuring a 2km swim, 80km bike and 18km run.
