Argentina is aggressively pursuing a bid to host the 2035 Rugby World Cup, aiming to stage the tournament for the first time in South America. The Argentine Rugby Union (UAR) envisions a co-hosted event involving Brazil, Chile, and Uruguay. World Rugby chief executive Alan Gilpin is currently on a fact-finding mission to Argentina ahead of formal applications being submitted in the latter half of 2026.

UAR president Gabriel Travaglini framed the bid as crucial for showcasing rugby's 'passion and development' across the continent. This push comes amidst a crowded field, with confirmed bidders Japan and Spain, Italy's expressed interest, and a rumored Middle East proposal. Argentina's rugby credentials are strong, having participated in all 10 previous World Cups and reaching the semi-finals in three of the last five tournaments.
