Women's football faces being the "first casualties" of Fifa president Gianni Infantino's plan to sell stakes in competitions to private investors, according to former England defender Anita Asante. On Thursday, Uefa's 55 member associations voted to boycott all Fifa competitions until the governing body abandons Infantino's proposals. Uefa's stance will be tested by the Fifa Under-20 Women's World Cup, scheduled to begin on September 5 in Poland.

"I don't think Fifa have considered the implications of their decision," Asante told BBC Sport, highlighting the potential impact on tournaments like the Under-17 Women's World Cup in Morocco and qualifiers for the Women's World Cup in Brazil. "You can't take for granted the opportunity to play in the World Cup," she added.

Fifa aims to create a commercial subsidiary, Fifa Forward Enterprise (FFE), to run its main events and attract external investors. A document from investment bank JP Morgan outlines plans for expanded tournaments and increased payouts, but notably makes no mention of the women's game. Fifa has set a September 19 deadline for federations to accept these plans, with Thrive Eternal, a firm linked to Joshua Kushner, expected to lead the investor group.
