UEFA has announced a boycott of all FIFA competitions, including the World Cup, in response to FIFA president Gianni Infantino's proposal to raise $20 billion through a private equity sell-off. UEFA's 55 member associations unanimously rejected the plan, deeming it an unacceptable treatment of football's legacy as an investment product.

Infantino's proposal, backed by Josh Kushner and JP Morgan, aimed to sell a stake in FIFA Forward Enterprises (FFE), promising over $80 million to each member association by 2037. However, UEFA argues that this would cede control over future World Cups to private investors, prioritizing financial returns over the sport's integrity. They cited a lack of meaningful consultation as a significant failure of FIFA's governance.

The boycott signifies a strong stance against commercializing major tournaments. UEFA stated that no European national teams will participate in FIFA competitions unless the proposal is entirely abandoned and assurances against future private ownership are provided. The first potential impact will be on the Women's U-20 World Cup in September.
