A group of Wolverhampton Wanderers supporters traveled to the 1986 World Cup in Mexico and never came home. Unemployed and seeking adventure, Gary Allen, Garry Hardwicke, Stuart Bates, David Arnold, and Steve Dawson flew 5,000 miles from Stourbridge and Lye to experience the tournament. What began as a football pilgrimage became a permanent life change.

Director Jack Leigh of Eight Engines documented their remarkable story in 'Lost Down Mexico Way,' which follows the friends over four decades. Leigh initially dismissed the email pitch from Gary Allen but reconsidered, recognizing the genuine charm of working-class lads embarking on an incredible adventure. Three months later, they filmed a taster reel in Mexico.

The men faced culture shock upon arrival - Arnold joked they had to look up Mexico on a map and didn't know Spanish. They adapted quickly, finding work easily and embracing American opportunities. 'America was a different kettle of fish,' Allen recalled, noting they landed jobs within weeks.

Now scattered across Texas and Atlanta, the group maintains their friendship through regular calls and visits. Though Allen admits missing Stourbridge deeply, he never regretted staying. The documentary reveals how one spontaneous trip transformed five lives forever.
