Tottenham near deal for Bournemouth defender Senesi

Tottenham are on the verge of adding Bournemouth centre‑back Marcos Senesi on a free transfer. Personal terms remain to be signed, but the deal moves forward alongside Spurs’ pursuit of Scotland full‑back Andy Robertson, who left Liverpool at the end of his contract as this summer.

Bournemouth gave up on retaining Senesi after he rejected a third contract offer in December and opened talks with clubs abroad. The Argentine, capped three times, now appears set to remain in the Premier League, barring a last‑minute change of heart for Spurs this season.

Senesi featured in all but one of Bournemouth’s league matches as the Cherries finished sixth, securing their first ever European qualification. He logged 128 appearances over four years after arriving from Feyenoord in 2022, proving a reliable defensive presence for the club throughout the campaign.

Spurs scraped 17th place last season, then steadied under Roberto de Zerbi after his March appointment, narrowly avoiding relegation. Chief executive Vinai Venkatesham warned the squad lacks balance, experience and physical robustness, calling the current window critical for rebuilding. Adding Senesi and Robertson should give the team the leadership it lacks.
