Steve Clarke has signed a new contract as Scotland head coach running until 2030, ending speculation about his future following Euro 2024 disappointment. The 62-year-old, newly inducted into the Scottish Football Hall of Fame, faced criticism after his side lost to Germany and Hungary while drawing with Switzerland at the finals.

Clarke initially rated his chances of staying on as 50-50 after securing World Cup qualification, but ultimately decided his experience outweighed the need for fresh leadership. 'I've probably got a better understanding of what's next than somebody coming in fresh,' he told BBC Scotland, emphasizing the importance of stability ahead of the upcoming tournament.

The former Chelsea and Kilmarnock manager highlighted the natural evolution of his squad, noting nine to ten player changes between major tournaments. He believes maintaining continuity will benefit Scottish football's long-term development, with younger talents emerging through the ranks.

By signing on for what will be 11 years in charge by 2030, Clarke aims to oversee this generational transition while building on the foundation established during his seven-year tenure.
