Soren Lerby's Dual Game Day Feat

In 1984, Soren Lerby pulled off a rare stunt: playing for Denmark and Bayern Munich on the same day across two countries. The midfielder started Denmark's 4-1 World Cup qualifier win in Dublin, then jetted to Germany for a German Cup match.

The logistics were chaotic. Lerby played 57 minutes for Denmark before boarding a private plane arranged by Bayern's Uli Hoeness. After a traffic-delayed drive, he arrived at the Bochum stadium late and warmed up by running four kilometers to the dressing room.

Lerby entered Bayern's match at halftime and saw extra time in a 2-2 draw. He later scored in the replay and helped Bayern win the cup. Despite the marathon day, Lerby shrugged it off as routine chaos in an era with fewer player protections.

Years later, Hoeness repeated the trick with Mark Hughes. Lerby joked he deserved a bonus too: “I will say, you missed something, Uli!”
