Rohl quits Rangers for Salzburg, club hunts new boss

Danny Rohl departs Rangers after eight months to take charge of Red Bull Salzburg. The Austrian side, fresh from a third‑place finish – its lowest in twenty years – announced the 37‑year‑old will replace Daniel Beichler, who was sacked after 14 games. Rohl leaves with two years remaining on his contract and a record of 22 wins, 11 losses and seven draws in 40 matches.

Rohl arrived at Ibrox in October, succeeding Russell Martin and instantly revived a campaign that had stalled in mid‑table. His side surged into a three‑way title race, only to collapse after the split, losing four of their final five fixtures and slipping to third behind Celtic and Hearts. Early cup exits to Celtic amplified fan frustration.

Chairman Andrew Cavenagh praised Rohl’s work but confirmed the club will move quickly to appoint a replacement, with Hearts boss Derek McInnes tipped as the frontrunner. Rangers must now rebuild under a new manager while navigating a January transfer window that Rohl had only just opened, notably signing Lawrence Shankland from Hearts. The next appointment will shape the club’s summer overhaul.
