Dan Neil has completed his move to Rangers from Sunderland on a three-year deal, joining the Scottish side as a free agent after eight years with the Black Cats. The 24-year-old midfielder made 201 appearances for his boyhood club, progressing from League One through to the Premier League. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Ipswich Town in the Championship.

Neil captained Sunderland to Premier League promotion in 2025 and brings significant experience despite his age. Limited top-flight opportunities following their promotion prompted the move north. The former England Under-20 international expressed excitement about embracing the expectations and pressure that comes with representing Rangers, drawing parallels to his time at Sunderland.

Rangers manager Derek McInnes praised Neil as a technically-gifted midfielder who contributes goals and energy. McInnes highlighted the player's hunger, ambition, and leadership qualities. Neil joins a summer recruitment drive that includes Ben Godfrey, Ross McCrorie, Lawrence Shankland, and goalkeeper Ivor Pandur.

The signing strengthens Rangers' midfield options as they prepare for the new campaign. Neil's versatility and proven track record in English football could prove valuable in their pursuit of domestic and European success. His experience captaining Sunderland through multiple divisions demonstrates the character McInnes wants to instill at Ibrox.
