Nuno Espirito Santo says West Ham "let down" their fans after a 2-1 defeat to Charlton Athletic in their first Championship home match. Lloyd Jones opened the scoring in the seventh minute after a long throw-in bounced inside the penalty area, before Tyreece Campbell doubled the lead early in the second half following a Konstantinos Mavropanos error.

Despite enjoying more than 77% of possession and registering an expected goals total of 2.96, West Ham lacked clinical finishing. "We created a lot of situations but we weren't accurate enough in the boxes," Nuno said. "We have to defend much better. We had a lot of possession and tried to break them down, which is not easy."

The manager stressed improving final-third combinations and one-on-one situations. "This season, it's clear that we're going to be protagonists and will have more of the ball," he added. "We're going to repeat, repeat, repeat - but keep the belief in the process. We're going to get together and bounce back." West Ham next face Southampton in the Carabao Cup, before meeting Watford and Wolves.
