North Korean side Naegohyang made history by winning the Asian Women's Champions League final in South Korea, becoming continental champions. The victory means they will qualify for next year's Fifa Women's Champions Cup, where they'll represent Asia against champions from five other confederations. Their achievement carries extra significance as they crossed the border into South Korea for the tournament, a rare occurrence given the tense relations between the nations.

Despite travel restrictions officially preventing North Korean supporters from attending, approximately 1,200 members of civic groups backed by Seoul's unification ministry were present at Saturday's final. The match was viewed as a potential positive step for inter-Korean relations, with South Korea's Unification Minister Chund Dong-young calling it a "positive precedent." The two Koreas remain technically at war since the 1953 armistice, with relations deteriorating significantly in recent years.

Coach Ri and star player Kim, who scored the match-winning goal, abruptly walked out of a post-match news conference after a South Korean reporter referred to their country as the "north side." Coach Ri stated, "All of our players focused solely on winning today's match, putting in the effort while cherishing every minute and second," adding he "did not have the time or room to concern myself with various other issues." The victory provides North Korea with a rare diplomatic achievement amid ongoing tensions.
