Seattle Reign midfielder Jess Fishlock announced Tuesday that the 2026 NWSL season will be her last, concluding a 14-year career with the club since the league's inception in 2013. She is one of just three remaining active players from the inaugural season, alongside Alyssa Naeher and Sydney Leroux, and the only one to spend that entire time with a single team.

Fishlock won 2021 NWSL MVP and earned Best XI honors five times, helping Seattle capture three NWSL Shields including in 2014 when the Reign assembled one of the most dominant teams in league history. "Jess is one of the greatest players to ever play in this league," head coach Laura Harvey said. "What makes her truly special is who she is every single day."

The 39-year-old Welsh international retired from national team duties last year but wanted one more season with Seattle's young group. She scored the Reign's first goal of 2026 on March 15 against Orlando. Though her post-playing future remains open—she's earned her UEFA A coaching license and is studying for a master's in sports leadership—she's at peace with the decision.

"I really lean into the journey of things rather than focus on the outcome, because without it, you'll never get to the outcome anyway," Fishlock said.
