FIFA Adds More World Cup Tickets After Fan Backlash

Soccer's governing body FIFA announced it will release additional World Cup tickets for all 104 games across Categories 1, 2, and 3 plus the newly added "front category." The move comes after fan complaints that better seats were withheld during initial sales, forcing fans to accept less favorable locations than expected.

FIFA initially priced tickets from $140 to $8,680 for the tournament, then raised rates to as much as $10,990 when sales reopened April 1. The governing body has not addressed concerns about the new pricing tiers, which many fans viewed as a deceptive practice to extract more revenue rather than genuine market-based pricing.

Ticket sales for the U.S. opener against Paraguay on June 12 in Inglewood show concerning demand, with only 40,934 tickets purchased out of SoFi Stadium's 69,650 capacity. FIFA priced these seats at $1,120, $1,940, and $2,735, suggesting significant challenges in selling premium seats despite the tournament's proximity.
