Newly acquired Red Sox catcher Adley Rutschman is expected to come off the injured list Tuesday, interim manager Chad Tracy told reporters in Toronto. Rutschman has been out since July 18 with left wrist inflammation. He went through a pregame workout at Rogers Centre and if all went well, would be activated ahead of Tuesday night's game against the Blue Jays.

Rutschman joined Boston before the trade deadline, with the Red Sox trading prospects and catcher Carlos Narvaez to Baltimore for the three-time All-Star. He had a two-game rehab stint with Triple-A Worcester, going a combined 1-for-5 with a double, two runs and two RBIs. He then flew to Toronto and joined the team, which opened a three-game series Monday.

Boston currently carries catchers Connor Wong and Jake Rogers, the latter acquired from Baltimore in the Rutschman deal. Tracy indicated the team was unlikely to carry three catchers once Rutschman is activated. "It will be a challenge at this point in the year," Tracy said.
