Hansi Flick has confirmed he wants to renew his contract with Barcelona and end his career at the club, declaring his intention to lead them to Champions League success for the first time since 2015. The German coach's current deal runs until 2027, but president Joan Laporta has already indicated fresh terms will be offered. Despite Barcelona's European exit to Atlético Madrid last week, Flick stated at a news conference: "This is my plan to renew, of course... this is the last step in my career."

Flick inherited a Barcelona side that failed to win any trophies in 2023-24 and has since delivered the LaLiga, Copa del Rey, and Spanish Supercopa in his first season. Another league title appears imminent, with Barcelona holding a nine-point advantage over Real Madrid with just seven games remaining. However, European success has eluded them—Barcelona lost to Inter Milan in the Champions League semifinal last season and to Atlético in the quarterfinal last week. "For me it's a big dream to win the Champions League here," said Flick, who lifted the trophy with Bayern Munich in 2020.

Flick identified a lack of leadership on the pitch as a key factor in their European struggles following the Atlético defeat. "It hurt a lot... in these games, sometimes it's about the small details," he explained, noting that Iñigo Martínez's leadership was missed this season. "We need players with this leadership on the pitch... to tell a teammate 'One or two metres left or right, or press.'" The 61-year-old insisted the young squad will learn and improve, but acknowledged Barcelona must make "perfect" decisions in upcoming transfer windows to achieve their Champions League ambitions.
