Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe ended a decade together, posting the news on Instagram Friday. The former basketball star and soccer icon wrote that, after much thought, they had decided to separate as a couple. The statement emphasized love, respect and care, and thanked fans for their support.

Bird, 45, captured four WNBA titles during a 19‑season run with the Seattle Storm and added five Olympic gold medals with Team USA. She was the No. 1 pick in the 2002 draft after two NCAA championships at UConn. Bird retired after the 2022 season and was inducted into the Hall of Fame last year.

Rapinoe, 40, won the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2015 and 2019 and earned a 2012 Olympic gold medal. The former NWSL forward retired after the 2023 season. Her career earned her global recognition and she has been a vocal advocate for equality in sport.

Together they launched the podcast “A Touch More,” building a community around shared experiences. The pair said the chapter of co‑hosting ends, but the network they created will continue. Both athletes remain influential figures, with Bird now managing the U.S. women’s national basketball team and Rapinoe continuing activism.
