Glasgow Team Joins South of Scotland League

Saltire City FC from Glasgow will become the northernmost team in the South of Scotland Football League next season, marking a significant expansion beyond the league's traditional Dumfries and Galloway heartland. The club, founded by Paul Davies, will play its home matches at Budhill Park in Shettleston.

Davies, who previously managed Glasgow Girls FC for seven or eight years, said the decision came after exploring entry into the West of Scotland Football League but finding limited opportunities. Saltire City FC aims to create a player pathway for young talent aged 17 to 24, targeting players who might not get competitive opportunities in lower divisions of the West league.

The club currently has about 10 players signed and plans to complete its squad by the end of March. They're also using artificial intelligence technology to identify and develop talent. With the SOSFL seeking to expand its membership ahead of losing teams to the new Lowland League West, Saltire City's addition represents a strategic move to strengthen the league's competitive depth.
