The South of Scotland Football League (SOSFL), boasting a 134-year history, is actively seeking new teams. Facing potential single-digit participation next season, the league is adapting to a restructuring of Scottish football tiers. Two clubs will depart for the new Lowland League West, prompting the SOSFL to expand its recruitment beyond its traditional boundaries.

League Secretary Richard Osborne confirmed the league isn't in a desperate situation, but is actively trying to recruit. The league, which dates back to 1892, currently includes teams from across Dumfries and Galloway, but is looking into areas like the Borders and Lanarkshire. Financial incentives, including points-based rewards and player injury insurance, are offered to attract clubs.

This need for new members arises from the expansion of the Lowland League, which will see Dalbeattie Star and Newton Stewart promoted. Osborne emphasized the negative impact of playing the same teams repeatedly. The SOSFL provides a vital platform for adult football in the region, offering a pathway for young players, which makes this expansion very important.

With the goal of boosting numbers, the SOSFL is reaching out to potential new clubs. Osborne expressed optimism about securing new members, emphasizing the league's welcoming atmosphere. Interested teams are encouraged to contact the league via its website. The league’s survival is important to grass roots football.
