Casemiro’s MLS Transfer Sparks Discovery Rights Probe

In July, Casemiro joined Inter Miami from Manchester United on a free transfer, signing a contract that runs to the end of the 2027 MLS season with an option to extend until 2029. The move came after the midfielder told LA Galaxy’s GM Will Kuntz he had always wanted to play for them.

But the club’s statement was short‑lived. When MLS announced a review into the signing, Kuntz revealed that Casemiro had also told him the same about Inter Miami Private. The probe focuses on discovery rights, a rule that gives a club first‑refusal over a player.

Inter Miami claimed it had acquired the discovery rights from LA Galaxy before the announcement. The two sides reached a settlement, with terms to be released once the tampering investigation concludes. Meanwhile, Casemiro scored an own goal in a 2‑2 draw with Columbus Crew, while Messi returned from the World Cup.

The league says it is gathering all relevant information and will not comment until the review ends. BBC Sportlands approached Casemiro’s agent and Inter Miami for comment.
